Proviron (Mesterolone) is a structurally altered DHT hormone having an additional methyl group at the carbon one position. This alteration in structure protects it from hepatic breakdown and allows the hormone to survive oral ingestion. Proviron is one of the only anabolic steroids that carries the added methyl group instead of being C17-alpha-alkylated (C17-aa). However, this steroid’s total bioavailability is far less than that of other C17-aa oral steroids as the methyl group protects it from breakdown. It is a significant reason for its being less popular among many performance-enhancing athletes. Nevertheless, it is not entirely justifiable.
Proviron has an androgenic rating of 30 to 40 and an anabolic rating of 100 to 150. These ratings are derived from and measured against testosterone, having a rating of 100 in both categories. Proviron 25 displays deficient anabolic traits despite having an anabolic rating greater than testosterone. On the other hand, the androgenic rating of Proviron tells a different story. Its androgenic activity appears to be higher than what its structural rating implies.
